Sewage Treatment Plant is a facility designed to treat wastewater or sewage generated from residential, commercial, and industrial sources. The purpose of an STP is to remove pollutants from the wastewater so that it can be safely discharged into the environment or reused for various purposes. Sewage Treatment Plant also screens out large objects such as stones, sticks, and rags, and removes grit and sand.
Due to rapid urbanisation and a very high density of people in developed cities, it is difficult for civic authorities to provide the necessary infrastructure and facilities, such as water and sanitation to address this issue. Rapid development of suburban areas and the lack of treatment facilities is also of great concern therefore there is a need to have decentralised sewage treatment plants, known as package STPs, especially in small townships and on commercial properties. The benefits of establishing decentralised STPs or packaged plants reduces soil pollution and thus of benefit to the environment and communities living nearby. The package sewage treatment plant is a perfect fit for any decentralised STP application.
